Anatomy of Me

A while ago I was chatting to my mum about our family and as we were talking she started to mention which of my features were similar to past family members. I absolutely loved hearing about old members of my family and who I look like, and I also figured there are so many stories that relate to why we look the way we do, so I thought I would chat through some of them on this blog and maybe even turn it into an interesting idea for a tag?
I haven't seen anybody do this so far, I did so my research, so I hope this will be a fun new post for people to try out! I'm calling it the 'Anatomy of Me' tag so if you enjoy what you read then feel free to do the same on your blog!

First things first, hair!
I've always had natural straight hair and have never fully loved it! I curl it pretty much every day to give it a bit more oomph but one thing I don't mind so much anymore is the colour! In the above picture my hair has actually been coloured blonder, but in our conversation my mum told me that I have the exact same natural shade as my grandmother, which I love. Maybe I'll let my natural hair colour grow out!

Next, eyes!
My eyes have always been the smallest feature of my face. I have quite a long face, long nose and massive toothy grin, so my eyes have always seemed small compared to the rest of me. As a result of this I make daily use of winged eyeliner!
Ignoring their smallness, my eyes have always been one of my features that I liked the most. I'm very happy with the fact that I have green eyes, which is actually quite strange given that my mum, dad, sister and grandparents all have blue eyes. They do have a few flecks of blue in them but when the sun shines directly in them, or I cry, they turn bright green! They also have a ring of yellow lined with brown around the pupil, which looks pretty cool. It reminds me of the beach and ocean!
I think it's pretty cool that I'm the only person in my immediate family with green eyes. It makes me curious to know who I've got them from!

Now for the nose!
I actually have a pretty ridiculous story about my nose. I've always had a large nose, but there was one accident that I'm pretty certain caused a bump in the bridge!
When I was younger, I was swimming in the shallow end of the pool doing surface dives, and instead of doing a surface dive, I dived way too deep and smashed my nose into the bottom of the pool.
I thought I'd just bruised it and waited for the pain to calm down, but when I pulled my hands away from my face they were covered in blood. I was taken to the first aid room and spent a long time waiting for the bleeding to stop!
I don't think I broke it but I'm pretty sure I fractured or cracked it and we didn't know, because again I'm the only member of my family that has a bump as opposed to a straight slope!
I've been bullied a lot for having a larger nose over the years and when I was younger it really affected me. It was a feature of my face that I absolutely hated but nowadays I'm pretty tolerant of it. I definitely still have days where it's a huge insecurity for me, but it does its job of letting me breathe and smell, so I've pretty much just learnt to accept it. Maybe one day I'll love it!

Finally, smile!
I've never shied away from smiling. I don't have the straightest, or smallest, teeth in the world, but I'm happy with the way my smile looks and honestly, it's just too much effort to care about what my smile looks like. It's a smile!
I've luckily never had to have braces, although my teeth are starting to gather at the bottom, and I've been pretty blessed when it comes to visiting the dentist, so I'm very happy with this particular feature! Even if I didn't like my smile, I don't think that would stop me from showing it!

I hope you enjoyed reading some of my stories and I hope it inspires you to find out a bit more about why you look the way you do! I also think it's a positive way to look at our features, exploring and being proud of why they are the way they are instead of comparing to others!
If you enjoyed this post, feel free to do your own and let me know in the comments some of your stories!

  5. This is such an original and very intriguing idea for a tag - it was a pleasure to read.

I must say that your eye liner is on point! I'm unable to achieve anything that doesn't make me resemble a panda, so I'm rather jealous.
