Easter Weekend - South Lakes Safari Zoo

The second part of my Easter weekend was spent at South Lakes Safari Zoo! This one I have been to a few times because it really is amazing, but there are so many new changes there now which just made it so much more enjoyable. I went there a lot during my childhood so it brought some wonderful memories back from the minute I stepped in!

When we purchased our tickets, they give you the option of paying an extra £4 to be able to feed some of the animals. The main ones you can hand-feed are giraffes, lemurs and penguins, although they do give you a bag of food which you can go around and feed to certain other animals! We paid for this option but because we got there around midday, we'd actually missed the lemur feeding, and the penguin feeding was too busy to get a chance to do, but we did feed the giraffes and it was so worth it ... even if it did slobber all over my hand!
In my personal opinion, the best part of the zoo is the kangaroo/lemur/monkey/bird enclosure! They keep all of these animals in one enclosure which you can just walk around in, even feeding some of the animals. My boyfriend had a peacock eat some food out of his hand, and the lemurs were jumping all over people!
I was walking down a small passage in the enclosure, just minding my own business, when I turn around and come face to face with a full sized emu! For someone who has a phobia of birds, this was my worst nightmare! I won't lie to you, I freaked out, I screamed, I ran away, I thought my heart was going to burst out of my chest, but just the fact that I went into an enclosure where birds the size of humans could come right up close to me, I figured I deserved a gold medal!
Aside from the animals jumping out and terrifying me, it was one of the most awesome experiences. There were monkeys just bouncing through the trees above our heads and a different animal around every corner!
It's honestly such an awesome day out and really is one of the best zoo's I've been to. The animals all look extremely well looked after and the staff are lovely! I urge everyone to go and have that experience. Let me know in the comments if you've been and what your favourite part was!
