Night Owls by Jenn Bennett | Book Recommendation

'Meeting Jack on the Owl - San Francisco's night bus - turns Beatrix's world upside down. Jack is charming, wildly attractive ... and possibly one of San Francisco's notorious graffiti artists. On midnight rides and city rooftops, Beatrix begins to see who this enigmatic boy really is. But Jack is hiding much more - and can she uncover the truth that leaves him so wounded?'

Over the past few months, I've started to become a little apprehensive at picking up a YA romance novel. Most of the books in this genre that I've read recently have all tended to follow a very similar story line, with very similar characters, and I've just fallen a bit out of love with them. I picked up Night Owls on a whim a little while ago, and I'm so so glad that I did! It completely restored by faith in YA romance, it has its own firm spot in my current top ten books, and if I were ever to write a teenage romance novel, this is what I would want it to be like!
The leading characters, Beatrix and Jack, feel refreshingly original and interesting right from the beginning, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading their story. I always enjoy romance novels that have much more going on besides the love story, and this book included some very deep issues along the way!
Beatrix, our leading lady, is a high school student who is feisty, fun, and an all round lovely character to read about, and I loved the male lead, Jack, who has much more to him that meets the eye.
If you're not into romance stories then this book probably isn't for you, but if you're a fan of young adult romance books then I would definitely recommend picking this up because it completely stood out from the crowd for me. I'm looking forward to re-reading this at some point and diving back into this lovely story!

Have you read this book before?
