The Harry Potter Studio Tour

As an avid Harry Potter fan, I have wanted to visit the Harry Potter Studio Tour in London for the longest time, and last month I finally got to tick it off my bucket list. I was completely in my element as we walked around the tour and I learnt so much that I didn't know about how the films were made!

If you've never been to the tour before I'll try my best not to fill you in too much, but I have to share some of my favourite moments throughout the day!
Of course, one of them has to be the moment they open the doors to the great hall. You build up such a huge amount of excitement beforehand for beginning the tour, and the staff try and make everything as suspenseful as possible so that as those doors slowly open and you make your way through, everyone in the room is filled with childlike wonder!
It took us around 5 hours to walk around the tour in its entirety, including stopping for a quick sit down and taste of butterbeer in the canteen halfway through. I definitely spent way too much time admiring all of the stationary props, as you can see from the pictures, but I think the most interesting thing is learning about how things like moving props, or the mythological creatures, were created. For instance I always assumed that Buckbeak the Hippogriff was created using CGI, which he was in part, but they also created an actual moving robot for particular parts of the film, and it looks incredible. It blows my mind how people create the things that they do. He actually bowed and blinked and looked unbelievably realistic.
I think the most incredible part of the day though has to be the moment you walk around a corner and see Hogwarts for the first time. I won't lie, I teared up quite a bit. These books mean so much to me, and seeing such an extraordinary creation of the castle just brought back all of the memories I have of reading these books, watching the films, and how much they meant to me as I was growing up. It was definitely a moment I won't forget!
And of course, I couldn't leave without picking something up from the gift shop! I bought myself a hufflepuff scarf, a notebook, a chocolate frog, and some bertie botts every flavour beans!

Even if you're not the biggest Harry Potter fan, the tour offers so much that everyone will find something they find interesting. Whether that's looking at the props, discovering how things work, seeing sketches of early design work, meeting the animals from the films, or just enjoying seeing your Harry Potter obsessed friend in a state of pure happiness, the tour is an incredible day out. I mentioned roughly 1% of the things that you can see and learn about, so whether you're a Harry Potter fan or simply a film buff, book yourself a ticket!

Have you visited the studios?
