5 Reasons To Start Keeping A Journal

I've kept a journal my entire life. Documenting my thoughts, feelings and what I get up to every day in a beautiful notebook is one of my absolute favourite hobbies. There are so many incredible benefits of keeping a journal so I thought I would share 5 of those with you guys today!

IT'S A WAY TO REVISIT FORGOTTEN MEMORIES
I've kept a journal since I was 12 years old, that's almost a decade! I haven't written every day for the past ten years, *that would be an insane amount of notebooks*, but when I started out I did write pretty much every other day for around a year and a half and I now have so many memories from my high school years that I'm able to go back and relive through those journal entries! I find it so amazing that I can keep memories alive that I might have forgotten had I not written it down in a notebook and it just fills me with so much nostalgia and happiness whenever I take a look back. This is probably my absolute top reason for keeping a journal. Also if you had a polaroid or instant camera you could snap each day with a picture and a little quote underneath which would be so amazing to look back on!

IT'S A FORM OF STRESS RELEASE
I can't tell you the amount of times I've felt instant relief after having poured all my stresses and worries into my journal. It's such a brilliant way of getting rid of all the bad thoughts going on in your brain without affecting anyone else. I always feel like I've dealt with whatever worries I might have by tackling them and writing them down, and then once it's done I can close the journal and forget about them. Even if you don't keep a journal, I recommend doing this whenever you feel stressed, I can almost guarantee it will help!

IT'S CREATIVE
As an aspiring writer I find it so helpful to go back and flick through these journals whenever I need a source of inspiration. I might stumble across an old idea that I'd forgotten about or just simply reading about old memories and old friends can inspire me and get those creative juices flowing. It's also such a wonderful outlet for creativity in terms of being able to write/doodle/scrapbook whatever you want!

IT CAN BE A SOURCE OF MOTIVATION
Along with being a source of inspiration, it can also be a source of motivation. I can't tell you how many times I've read an old entry about a really productive day, or an entry about my goals/ambitions for the future and it's given me the kick up the bum I needed to get started again! It's also an amazing way at tracking your progress throughout your life. I can look back at when I was 16 years old and think of how much I've achieved and accomplished since then and it definitely gives me a boost!

IT'S YOUR PRIVATE PERSONAL SPACE
This is one of my favourite reasons for keeping a journal. It's mine. No ones thoughts or opinions can come in and ruin things, it's just me and my brain and I absolutely love that. It's a really good way to get to know yourself better and have some of that all important 'me' time!

honestly think I'll be keeping a journal for the rest of my life. I may not write every day, but the thought of being able to sit in a rocking chair when I'm 80 and re-live memories from when I was 12 years old makes me so happy!

Do you keep a journal? Is it something you would consider?
