5 Reasons To Start Keeping A Journal

I've kept a journal for as long as I can remember. Documenting my thoughts, feelings and what I get up to in a beautiful notebook is one of my absolute favourite hobbies. There are so many incredible benefits of keeping a journal so I thought I would share 5 of those with you guys today!

IT'S A WAY TO REVISIT FORGOTTEN MEMORIES
I've kept a journal on and off since I was 12 years old, which is almost a decade! Because of this I now have memories from my high school years that I'm able to go back and relive through those journal entries. I find it so lovely that I'm able to ensure I remember things that I may have forgotten otherwise, focusing more on the small details than on the big life events that will likely stay in my memories anyway. This is definitely the biggest benefit of keeping a journal for me!

IT'S A FORM OF STRESS RELEASE
If ever I'm feeling like things are getting on top of me and there are too many thoughts floating around in my mind, I write them down. This doesn't have to be in a journal - you could just brain dump all of your bad thoughts into a word document and delete it after you're finished. It feels like a weight has been lifted off my mind whenever I do this and even if you don't plan on keeping a journal, this is something I would recommend everyone do from time to time!

IT'S CREATIVE
As someone who has always been a creative person, I find it so helpful sometimes to go back and flick through old feelings and memories to spark fresh ideas. Old ideas that I'd forgotten about or just simply reading about old memories and old friends can inspire me and get those creative juices flowing.

IT CAN BE A SOURCE OF MOTIVATION
Along with being a source of inspiration, it can also be a source of motivation. If I've stumbled across an old entry of a really productive or incredible day it inspires me to make the same happen today! It's always a lovely way to track your progress throughout life. I can look back at when I was 16 years old and think of how much I've achieved and accomplished since then and it definitely gives me a boost!

IT'S YOUR PRIVATE PERSONAL SPACE
Keeping a journal lets you have a safe space where no one else's thoughts or opinions can come in and interrupt you. It's a wonderful way to get to know yourself better, explore your thoughts, feelings, and work on yourself as a person.

Do you keep a journal?
