How To Get Out Of A Reading Slump

I have struggled with reading slumps so many times. I'll be really into reading, flying through book after book and then all of a sudden, none of the books I own will interest me. I'll be looking at my bookshelf and not feeling the motivation to pull any of them off! This usually happens if I've just finished a book that I didn't enjoy, or that has taken me ages to read. As someone who adores reading, I obviously want to get rid of these feelings as soon as possible, so I thought I would share with any of the readers out there who struggle with reading slumps, the things I do to kickstart reading again!

SET YOURSELF A DAILY GOAL
I am one of those people that has to finish every single book they read. Even if I'm not enjoying it, I have to finish. The thought of missing out on a good ending just scares me too much. So if I'm not enjoying the book it's a real struggle to pick it up and continue. The one thing that helps me is setting daily goals. I aim to read one chapter a day. Doing this may take a long time to finish the book, but the motivation to complete a goal makes me pick up the book far more than if I just try and tell myself to. If you want to read more but aren't that big into reading, set yourself a goal to read a chapter a day, it honestly helps so much! Also if you end up reading two or three chapters you feel awesome.

REREAD A BOOK YOU LOVE
If you're just struggling to find the motivation to pick up a book, pick up one you know you're going to love! My go to books are the harry potter series (whose isn't?!), and it never fails to get me back into reading. It reminds you how entertaining reading can be and gives me the motivation to find a new book that I'll love just as much (although I'm not sure anything will ever top harry potter!)

READ A SHORT BOOK OR NOVELLA
Going along the same lines as the last tip, picking up a book you know you'll finish quickly will also help to get you back into reading! There's no point attempting a huge book when you're just not into reading because it will feel like that book will never end, making it even harder to read! Novellas are perfect as they're usually less than 100 pages which make them easy to get through and get back into the swing of reading!

TAKE PART IN A READ-A-LONG
At the start of the year myself and my friend Natalie decided to do a read-a-long together, reading the Dancing Jax trilogy! It was so much fun reading a book at the same time as someone else, getting to discuss and chat about all the crazy things going on and seeing where the other person was up to. This definitely made me read more as Natalie is such a quick reader so I had to put the time in to be able to keep up with her! Alternatively you could take part in an online read-a-long with much more people. There's so many people on youtube who create and take part in read-a-longs and it's such a nice community to be involved in!

LISTEN TO AN AUDIOBOOK
If you're really just not interested in picking up a book any time soon, maybe try an audiobook! I've never actually listened to an audiobook before because I am all about the physical books, but I do actually really like the idea of audiobooks! I get incredibly travel sick so whenever I'm on a bus or train I can't do anything besides sit and listen to my ipod, so it makes perfect sense to switch music for an audiobook, which I'm definitely going to be trying soon! Audiobooks are a great way to ease you back into reading without having to actually sit down and pick up a book!

What are your tips for getting out of a reading slump? Any book recommendations?
