A Letter To My 25 Year Old Self

Dear 25 year old me,
I'm writing to you from my tiny little bedroom in my childhood home, spread out on the bed you've had since you first came out of a cot. There's so many things that I'm hoping and wishing for you, so I thought I would write myself a letter. A letter filled with questions, hopes and goals for when I'm you. I'm hoping by the time you read this, all (or at least most) of this will be a reality.

So, you're 25, that means you graduated university two years ago. Did you graduate with a first? I'm hoping so, although I will still be absolutely over the moon with a 2:1. Right now you're doing well, you just need to use your time more wisely and do the reading!
You chose to stay at home for university rather than move into halls so at the age of 22 you've still never lived alone, do you have your own place? Are you flat sharing with a friend? Are you living with a partner? I'm hoping once you finish university you'll be moving into a flat of your own, you're ready for your own place.
Are you in a relationship? Right now you've been single since July 2016 and I'd like to hope you've found someone who makes you happy, but it's okay if you haven't. Relationships aren't the be all and end all, but sometimes when you're in one you think it is.
think most importantly, are you happy? Even if you're still living at home, or haven't dated anyone in a few years, I won't mind so long as you're happy.

I hope you kicked the issues that 2016 brought your way right in the butt. At the minute you're trying to tackle them headfirst and they are easing up a bit. You just need to figure out how to stop your brain from obsessing over all the negative thoughts.
How's your skin? Has your acne come back or has roaccutane worked for the second time? I really hope it has. The difference having clear skin has made to your confidence is ridiculous, you don't hide your face anymore.
I hope with a bit more confidence you'll be taking opportunities. I hope you do things, travel places, go out with your friends and don't confine yourself to your house for days on end.
I hope that you're braver. I hope you know that you deserve happiness, you deserve respect and you deserve to be treated well. I hope you know that if you're not happy in a relationship, you're allowed to leave. You're allowed to start again and you will find someone else. The world doesn't solely revolve around the person you're with.
I hope that you're doing something you love. You've been a graduate for two years now, what job are you doing? I hope you're not waking up in the morning and dreading the day ahead, I want you to enjoy what you do. Is the small independent business that you and your sister just started still going strong? How far have you got with your book? Are you working towards having it published? I really really really hope you're not stuck doing a job you hate, and if you are, you need to change that!

Even though you're only 3 years away, I have a lot of hopes for you! 22 year old me is currently working her butt off, so fingers crossed you have them. Above everything though, I hope you're happy. Everyone is allowed bad days, life isn't always ship shape and shiny, but I hope that for the most part you're happy, healthy and enjoying life. And if you're not, then get off your butt and change things!

Love from,
22 year old you
xxx

  1. I love this! It's going to be so lovely when you read this again, at 25. You should then make a post reviewing what you were right about and what didn't turn out the way you expected.

When I was around 16, I hand-wrote a 7 page letter to my 30-year-old self. I hope I don't forget about it...but I've definitely forgotten the 'nitty-gritty' of what I said, which I guess will make opening it up all the more exciting!
