Why We Should All Appreciate Our Friends More

"Friends are the family we choose for ourselves" - Edna Buchman

I've been thinking a lot about friendship recently and all the different friends I've made throughout the years, some that I still see, others that I've drifted from. I've been very lucky to have met some incredible people and form relationships with them, whether that's lasted for a short while or indefinitely. Everyone that I've met has impacted my life in a different way, and when I think about the friends that I have now, I'm so so thankful that these brilliant people have come into my life and changed it for the better.

REAL FRIENDS ARE THERE WHEN YOU NEED THEM… Last year I went through a really sh**ty time, and during that time I became incredibly close friends with a girl from my university. She had known me less than a year, and yet she was messaging me as much as she possibly could so I could talk and get things out, she would drive the hour and a half round trip to my house so I could see someone if I couldn’t face leaving the house that day, she would tell me all the things I needed to hear and listen to every rant, moan and cry that I had in me, she was just incredible. And not only her but every one of my close friends accepted me, helped me and was patient with me when I needed them the most!

FRIENDS INSPIRE US… I have this friend who honestly inspires me every. single. time I see her. Right now, she’s currently living life to the bloomin’ fullest in Thailand, sending me pictures of her trying fried scorpion and showing me how truly badass she is! I don’t think there’s a single time where I have a conversation with her and she doesn’t leave me feeling motivated or completely in awe of her way of thinking. My life would be far less interesting without her in it!

FRIENDS ARE THERE TO MAKE THE BEST MEMORIES WITH… I met this wonderful girl when I was in college, who has given me some of the best memories I could think of. Sadly, we have drifted apart, but I’m so thankful she came into my life when she did. She brought out the adventurous person within me and I now have so many incredible memories thanks to her!

I’m so thankful for every friend that I have, whether that be someone who comes into my life for a short period of time, or someone who's here for good and I think we all need to do as much as we can to show them how much we appreciate them! Sending an out of the blue text, giving them a call, asking them about their day, complimenting them, all of these and many more are things we should try and do as often as we can. I would be completely lost without the friends I currently have and I hope that I have many more years to come with them in my life!

  1. Such a sweet post Samantha! Over the years I've drifted apart from my very best friends from high school and I regret it all the time! We definitely should show more appreciation for our friends!

  5. This is so sweet! I'm definitely one of the people who can count her number of true friends on one hand, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I know that my friends are there for me when I need them (and vice versa) even if I haven't spoken to them in months ♥
