Summer 2017 Reading List

Even though summer seems to be rapidly coming to a close here in rainy england, there's still lots of books that I'd like to get around to reading, preferably out in my garden soaking up some sunshine. My third year at university is fast approaching meaning my free time for reading is dwindling quickly, so I thought I would motivate myself by compiling a fresh new summer reading list!

THE SUN IS ALSO A STAR BY NICOLA YOON
I'm currently reading this novel and I'm definitely enjoying it so far. The story is incredibly sweet and I love that you get the occasional small chapter about a minor, otherwise insignificant, character here and there, alongside the two main characters. Natasha and Daniel meet 12 hours before Natasha is about to be deported to Jamaica and it follows the two as their romance blossoms. The chapters are also very short so I'm flying through this novel and am excited to see how things are going to work out!

BEAUTIFUL BROKEN THINGS BY SARA BARNARD
I haven't read a book that is solely about friendship for a long time so I'm definitely looking forward to diving into this. This follows Caddy, Rosie and Suzanne, and tackles the complexities of female friendship throughout our teenage years. I may save this towards the end of summer as I have been reading a lot of YA recently, but I'm excited nonetheless!

BIG MAGIC BY ELIZABETH GILBERT
This has been on my reading for ages and I still haven't got around to reading it. I've also definitely mentioned this on my blog before but if you're unaware this is a non-fiction book all about creativity and inspiration. I'd like to read this just before I start back at university to get my creative juices flowing and start my third year motivated and inspired to do my best work!

THE LION THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE BY C.S. LEWIS
I recently read the first book in the Narnia series, The Magician's Nephew, and I loved it. I've never read any of this series before and they're children's classics so this definitely needs to change. Plus I love the film and these books are super short so I'm pretty sure this can be done in an afternoon in the sun!

REASONS TO STAY ALIVE BY MATT HAIG
Similar to Big Magic, I'm hoping to read this as a bit of a pick me up before university. I want to start third year on the best foot possible and I've heard a lot of positive things about this book. I also adore Matt Haig's writing so I know I will enjoy this non-fiction book on anxiety, depression, and looking after our mental health!

What books are on your summer reading list?
