The Soundtrack Of My Life

Music is a huge part of my life and is definitely something I couldn’t get through a single day without, so when I saw both Lucy and Emma do this post I knew I had to create one of my own. I love hearing what music other people have a connection to and discovering new artists so feel free to leave your favourites in the comments!

MY FIRST ALBUM
This is going to sound pretty bad, but the first album I remember owning for myself on CD was Curtain Call by Eminem. I was definitely way too young to own that album but I absolutely loved it and you will still hear me rapping along to this day. My mum probably bought me albums before that which I don’t remember but I can hazard a guess that they were probably the Now (That’s What I Call Music) Compilation CD’s!

LONG TERM RELATIONSHIP ALBUM
This is easy, Michael Jackson Number Ones. Whilst my favourite album of his is Bad, this compilation CD includes songs from other albums that I adore and will never ever get tired of. I’ve had this album for as long as I can remember and I’m just as obsessed with it now as I’ve always been.

SONG THAT MAKES ME HAPPY
Blame It On The Boogie by the Jackson 5. If someone asked me what my favourite song was, I’d probably give this as an answer. I have a new favourite song every week but this never fails to put a smile on my face and get me up singing and dancing!

SONG/ALBUM THAT MAKES ME WANT DANCE
I don’t think there’s a full album out there that would make me want to dance to every track, so I’ll say one song that never fails is Planetary Go by My Chemical Romance. Literally from the opening note I will be up and jumping around, it can definitely give you a good workout!

FIRST GIG
This was either one of two. It was either Gareth Gates, just after he came second in Pop Idol (I still think he should have won), or it was Busted with Mcfly as their support act. These were both when I was something like 9 or 10 years old so I can’t quite remember which came first!

SONG I WISH I’D WRITTEN
Oh my goodness I could give so many answers to this. There is a list as long as my arm of songs that I wish I had written but if I have to pick one I’m going to say Smile by Nat King Cole. Apparently this was originally composed for a Charlie Chaplin film in 1936, with the lyrics being added for Nat King Cole’s version in the 50’s, and I just think it’s one of the most beautiful songs that’s ever been written.

SONG THAT REMINDS ME OF BEING A TEEN
Again, I could give so many answers to this because there are so many songs that remind me of each year of being a teenager, but I’m going to say Carry Out by Justin Timberlake and Timberland. I was really late to this party and only ended up listening to it once everyone else had got bored of it, so you can imagine how happy my friends were when I became obsessed and played this on repeat for months. I don’t tire of songs very easily!

KARAOKE SONG
Probably Simply The Best by Tina Turner. Purely for the fact that it’s a classic, everyone knows it and everyone can sing along with me so I’m not on my own!

SONGS THAT REMIND OF ME HOME
This is so difficult! There are so many songs I could choose from but I’m going to say Hotel California by the Eagles. This is one of my mums all time favourite songs and she would always have it playing when myself and my sister were growing up. Another would be David Bowie’s Life On Mars because that’s a song I would always hear coming from my dad’s music room and is something I now always associate with him.

ULTIMATE DESERT ISLAND DISC
This would be Michael Jackson’s Number Ones but because I’ve already said that I’m going to change it to a Disney Greatest Hits album. If ever I’m stuck for something to listen to, I just put on a disney playlist and I know there will always be something in there that suits whatever moon I’m in, whether it be a fast-paced fun song or an emotional ballad!

What are you currently listening to?

  1. I think Gareth Gates was probably the first concert I went to, he did a tour with Will Young and I thought it was amazing. I even loved Gareth Gates that much I had his face on my 10th birthday cake!

  3. Haha this was so cute to read, I'm a huge MJ fan as well. I've always loved Beyoncé right since I was a little girl. I remember my dad bought her very first solo album and I loved it so much. o she's someone I'll always love. One year later, I still listen to Lemonade almost every day.

For most of my childhood I was into the music by Disney channel stars, wow you're going to make me go listen to some Disney songs haha. I've still never been to a gig/concert, I would love to go to one. xx
