Book Haul | 9

It’s been a good long while since I’ve done a book haul, 5 months actually, so I figured it was about time I put that right! I’ve purchased some beautiful books recently and I couldn’t resist picking some of the prettiest to show you today. The blurbs do sound incredible and I’m looking forward to reading every single one but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t judge some of these by their covers!

UPROOTED BY NAOMI NOVIK
I’ve actually already read this one and I LOVED it. I’m not going to say too much because I’m probably going to feature this in my new Book of the Month series, but to give you a little overview, there’s magic, romance, friendship and war and it’s one of those fantasy books that within the minute of finishing it I knew I was going to have to re-read!

INK BY ALICE BROADWAY
How beautiful is this cover?! When I saw it in the shop I was instantly pulled in and then the blurb gripped me so much I had to buy it! This book follows the story of Leora, in a world where every significant moment of your life is tattooed onto your skin. When her father dies, Leora discovers that his tattoos have been tampered with, and the story then follows her journey on discovering who her father really was. I cannot wait to dive into this!

ONE OF US IS LYING BY KAREN M. MCMANUS
It’s been so long since I’ve read a mystery thriller book and I’ve seen this one floating around so much recently that I had to pick it up. This follows the story of 5 teenage students and what caused only 4 of them to come out of detention alive. I’m really hoping this keeps me on my toes and guessing until the end!

BEAUTIFUL BROKEN THINGS BY SARA BARNARD
This is the next book I’m about to start reading and I’m really intrigued by it. All I know is that it follows the story of three friends and what happens when one starts to be excluded and I’m hoping this is going to be a nice easy read!

HOW NOT TO DISAPPEAR BY CLARE FURNISS
This is another one that I’ve already read and I really enjoyed it! It follows a 16 year old girl named Hattie, who has just found out that she’s pregnant and has also been contacted by a long-lost auntie, Gloria, that she never knew she had. The story takes you on an adventure with the two of them, as Gloria reveals some secrets of her past, and Hattie has to make difficult choices for her future. It’s a really lovely story, with some very heartbreaking issues involved, and it definitely captured my heart from start to finish!

THE ESSEX SERPENT BY SARAH PERRY
I bought this one as an impulse buy as I’ve seen it floating around for a long time but never seemed to pick it up. I pretty much bought it because of the gorgeous cover! This story follows a woman named Cora Seaborne, as she attempts to discover the mystery surrounding local deaths, disturbances and a so-called ‘essex serpent’. This book is very highly spoken of and it’s won numerous awards so I’m very curious to see what all the fuss is about!

What books have you picked up recently?
