Something that I would really like to start doing on this blog is a
book of the month feature. I’m always recommending books to my family and friends and I
figured something like a book of the month feature would be a bit more fun to talk about
rather than just regular book reviews. Hopefully my fellow book lovers out
there will find some of their new favourite reads!
So kicking of this brand spanking new feature is THE HUMANS BY
MATT HAIG
‘After an 'incident' one wet Friday night where Professor Andrew
Martin is found walking naked through the streets of Cambridge, he is not
feeling quite himself. Food sickens him. Clothes confound him. Even his loving
wife and teenage son are repulsive to him. He feels lost amongst a crazy alien
species and hates everyone on the planet. Everyone, that is, except Newton, and
he's a dog. What could possibly make someone change their mind about the human
race. . . ?’
This book quickly became not only one my
favourite reads of this year, but one of the best books I’ve read in a long
time. Since finishing this novel I’ve recommended it to numerous family and
friends, and all have come back with positive reviews themselves!
This was the first time I’ve read a
novel by Matt Haig, and I immediately fell in love with his writing style. I
wasn’t sure what I was expecting when I went into this novel, but I definitely
didn’t expect it to be as funny as it was! Within the first few pages of this
book, I was laughing out loud. It’s quite rare that a book will genuinely make
me laugh, but The Humans had me bursting out laughing no matter where I was.
Not only is the book a hilarious read,
it’s also beautifully written and incredibly inspiring. I wish that I had
thought to have to post-it notes handy when I read this book so that I could
bookmark all of the incredible quotes within it, but I guess that just gives me
an excuse to re-read it! There were a lot of time throughout the novel where
certain topics really hit home with me, and I felt a lot of different emotions
when reading this book. If he wasn’t making me laugh, he was making me cry!
I feel like no matter what mood you’re
in, this book will hit the spot. It’s a hilarious, moving, and inspirational
read and I would recommend everyone add it to their reading list!
Have you read this book?
