Why There Is Nothing Wrong With Living A Simple Life

Have you ever watched the television show, Gavin & Stacey?
Personally, I have lost count of the amount of times I have binge-watched this program. Whether it’s been a need for something comforting, a desire to laugh, or just some background tv, I always seem to turn to this and the other day I realised why.
It’s because it’s simple.
It’s a heartwarming, hilarious, brilliant show about normal every day people, living normal every day lives, and showing just how incredible that can be. It got me thinking about the fact that so many of us spend our lives trying to get a ‘better’ life, whether that be to become famous, make ourselves rich or travel the world. So today, I thought I would share a post explaining why I believe that if what you choose is a simple, 'normal' life, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE WELL-KNOWN TO BE WORTHWHILE... Society seems to have this idea that if you're famous, you're more important than everyone else. I don't agree with this at all. Sure, if a lot people know who you are then you definitely need more security and protection in order to live your life, but when it comes down to it, we're all blood, bones, and organs, and each individual person matters just as much as the next. If the only people in your life and your family and a few close friends, you are just as incredible and important as someone who has a million fans. Followers do not define your worth.

YOU'RE SO LUCKY TO HAVE WHAT YOU DO... Whenever you feel jealous over what someone else has, remind yourself that there is somebody out there who would kill to have what you have. There are people out there who are desperate to live our 'simple' lives, and it's important that we remind ourselves to feel grateful for everything that we do have.

YOU "MAKE SOMETHING OF YOURSELF" EVERY SINGLE DAY... I see a lot of people, on tv and in real life, say they're going to 'make something of themselves', and usually this is heard in relation to becoming famous, getting a well-paid job, getting a huge house etc. In my opinion, you don't need any of these things to 'make something of yourself'. Every single day that you pull yourself out of bed when your mental health is trying to drag you back down, you make something of yourself. Every time you do something kind for another human being, you make something of yourself. Every time you do something you're proud of, no matter how big or small that may be, you make something of yourself. Being somebody to be proud of should not come from the amount of your material things, or how many people know who you are, it should come from the kind of person you want to be.

THE SIMPLE THINGS ARE INCREDIBLE... A good cup of tea? A comfy bed with fresh sheets? A barbecue on the beach with friends and family? These things are wonderful and we should sour every second we can of them.

YOUR LOVED ONES ARE THE ONLY THING THAT TRULY MATTERS... You can make as much money or have as many fans as possible, but when it comes down to it, the people you love and that love you are the only thing that matters. If you have someone in your life that can five you that, your life is so much more fulfilled than you think.

What do you love most about the 'simple' life?

  1. I love this post, you're so right! We don't need to have an adventure every single day to be living our lives. My favourite thing is to light some candles and just read until it gets too dark to see the pages

    1. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I completely agree with that, it's a wonderful feeling <3 xxx

  2. Such a brilliant and uplifting post. I have a simple live and I love every single day, there is so much good in my life, and more people need to realise that about their life too!

  3. Loved this post, so beautiful and on point. I really loved the statement, "Followers do not define your worth." It's so easy to get caught up in trivial matters because of the emphasis placed on popularity and branding these days, but when you know who you are, you'll be happy regardless of how many people are "there." Thanks for this reminder.

    1. Definitely, I couldn't agree more! Thank you, I'm so glad you liked it <3 xxx
