Twelve Things I'd Like To Do Before Turning 25

After each birthday passes me by, I like to take a moment to myself and consider the things that I might want to have completed and achieved before the next one rolls around. With my birthday being in November, I guess you could call this an early goals for 2019 list, but let's not wish our time away! I decided to include a mixture of some important life goals, some personal goals, and some small hobby style goals in this list, so hopefully I'll have the best chance possible at achieving as many as I can!

LEARN TO DRIVE... I've always put off learning to drive because, 1) I'm surrounded by public transport so I haven't necessarily had the need to, and 2) the idea of being in control of something travelling at 70mph doesn't bode well with me. I'm at a point in my life now though where learning to drive will open up a lot more doors for my independence and the benefits of it outweigh my nerves, so I think it's time to bite the bullet and learn. Whether I'll have a car by the end of the year is another question entirely...

BUILD MY STRENGTH AND FLEXIBILITY... I used to be so much fitter than I am right now and I miss it. I want to feel stronger in my body, push it to be the best that it can be, and benefit my mental health in the process. Even if all I do is stretch for ten minutes, I want to dedicate time every single day to looking after my body.

TAKE PART IN A CHARITY RUN/CLIMB THE THREE PEAKS... As a result of strengthening my body, I want to use it again. When I was younger, I took part in so many charity runs that I now have a small collection of medals up in my loft, and I'd love to add to it. The last charity run I did was back in 2014 and I'd like to change that. I'd also like to *eventually* climb the national three peaks, which consists of Snowdon, in Wales, Scafell Pike, in England, and Ben Nevis, in Scotland. I can already tick Snowdon off my list but I'd like to be able to say I've climbed them all!

GO TO A JAZZ BAR... Jazz is a genre that I absolutely adore and I would love to visit a jazz bar. There's just something about the music that makes my soul come alive, and I am desperate to experience it live. I'm certain there are a variety of places I can visit dotted around Manchester so I'm sure this will be one of the easier goals to tick off my list!

WRITE FOR A PRINTED PUBLICATION... Definitely not one of the easier goals on this list, but something I'd like to achieve all the same. I have my eye on a few various magazines/publications that would be a dream to write for, and have found a number that allow submissions so I think it's definitely time to get the ball rolling on this one!

LEARN HOW TO PLAY THE PIANO *PROPERLY*... I say properly because I have played around with the piano for a long time now and I do have some knowledge and a few different songs under my belt, but I want to be able to play it how it's supposed to be played. Sometimes you can't always trust that those tutorials on youtube are teaching you the best techniques and giving you the correct information, so I'd love to tackle this instrument properly. I've always dreamt of being one of those people that can just sit down in front of a piano and play something beautiful, so I should probably start learning!

VISIT EDINBURGH AND/OR ITALY... Travelling abroad was something I had on my list of goals for 2018 and unfortunately it didn't happen this year. I did tick visiting Bath off my bucket list, but I'd like to add to that this year and tick both Edinburgh and Italy off as well. I'm not holding myself too strongly to this one though as it all depends on money and timing, but it's on here nonetheless!

HAVE A FACIAL TREATMENT... I'd like to visit a skin clinic and give my face some TLC. Even after my second course of Accutane, I still break out every single month and still suffer with scarring, so I'd like to explore my options of what I can do to help. I'd like to start small with a few facials here and there, and then maybe one day build up to microneedling. We'll see.

FINISH MY PATCHWORK QUILT... That I have been knitting since the dawn of time. I started this quilt years ago and I just keep wanting it to be bigger and bigger, so this year I would like to put a stop to it, finish knitting, and finally sew it all together.

GO ON A DATE... I have to admit I'm not particularly bothered about this one as I'm very happy in my single life right now, but I'm putting it on the list because I think it would be a confidence boost to just dip my toe back into the dating world again. It might be awful, it might be incredible, but I'd like to give it a go either way!

UPDATE MY WARDROBE *SUSTAINABLY*... I am the worst shopper in the entire world, and my wardrobe still consists of clothes I had when I was 18. If I'm honest, I'm really not that bothered about new clothes, and I'm not planning on having a huge shopping spree any time soon, but something I would like to do is update a few pieces with high quality replacements from sustainable brands. Pieces that will last another 6 years and more, but won't be washed out and have holes in them like some I currently own!

DECIDE ON A MASTERS DEGREE... Again, I'm being very lenient with this one because who knows what I might want to do in a years time. At the minute, I'm fairly certain I'm not finished with education yet, so for that reason I'd like to be in a position to begin a masters by next September, however if by then I've changed my mind completely, that's okay too. I guess I would just like to at least have fully explored my options by then; maybe have researched a few different courses and volunteered in a few different institutions to get a feel for the careers!

As much as I love writing down my goals and giving myself something to work towards, I also love having absolutely no idea what the next year could have in store for me. Who knows, by the time I'm 25 I could have ticked every single one of these off my list, or have a list of twelve brand new achievements, either way I'm looking forward to what's to come!

  1. You should totally visit both Italy and Edinburgh, they are wonderful places! Like you I really need to learn how to drive, however I don't think I'll do it before next year... Well done for giving you all these goals and I hope you accomplish as many as you can!
